about

2006 was the year I graduated college. I moved my audio gear (which, let's be real, was pretty basic at the time) into the first of many off-campus apartments, and I kept right on recording. I was writing more complex songs with more interesting arrangements, and I was finding my voice musically - but I was also getting bored.

I kept trying new thing after new thing, writing yet another demo, until one day I "jumped the groove" in 2008 and started writing "The Solomon Project", my first "real" release.

This set of songs is drawn from my demo albums "Father of Faces", "Heather's Last Breath", "Season Red Eye", and finally "Bastard Buffet" - several parts of which contributed directly to "The Solomon Project".

And with that, this journey back in time is over.

For now.

Ian Marquis Portland, Maine

My songs are tiny ecosystems: self-sustaining, self-contained, intricate, and densely layered. I'm captivated by found sound and immaculate production. I sample my own work. I chop up my guitars and create arrangements I could never have played. I treat my voice like an instrument, pushing and pulling it in otherworldly directions. I polish each track until, sonically, it feels like it sparkles. ... more
